Manchester United and England striker Marcus Rashford has referenced the levels of child poverty in some parts of Bolton as continues to urge the government to provide free school meals over summer.
In an open letter , the 22-year-old asked MPs to reconsider plans to not extend the current food voucher scheme and spoke about his own experiences of receiving free school meals.
But the Prime Minister and Department for Education have said the scheme will not be extended into the summer.A Department for Education spokesman said: “Free schools meals are ordinarily term time only, and the national voucher scheme will not run during the summer holidays.
