Mesut Ozil's Arsenal future continues to hang in the balance with the club yet to begin discussions over a contract extension.
The German is the club's highest paid player but his £350,000-a-week contract expires in 2021. Arsenal told the World Cup winner he was free to leave last summer with former manager Unai Emery deeming him surplus to requirements.
But Ozil's mammoth wages made finding a buyer a difficult task and he stayed put. Mikel Arteta has since succeeded Emery and made Ozil a starter but that has not altered Arsenal's stance as they remain hush on a new deal, reports ESPN.
Ozil was a favourite under Arsene Wenger and his colossal deal came at a time where the north Londoners feared losing both the German and Alexis Sanchez
