Millions of self-employed people will be able to claim a coronavirus grant of up to £6,570 from today. Applications are opening for the second round of the Self-Employment Support Scheme, which helps strivers whose business plunged due to Covid-19.
But more than a million of Britain's self-employed people are not eligible for the scheme. And Labour today warns they are being pushed to a "cliff-edge" as the Treasury warns this month's grant - the second of its kind since March - will be the last.
Meanwhile, today's grant comes too late for almost a quarter of a million self-employed people who've already been pushed out of work.
