A new Oireachtas Covid committee has been agreed and will meet for the first time next week. The new committee will be able to question the Taoiseach, various ministers and officials on aspects of the coronavirus emergency.
It will have 19 members comprising four each from Sinn Féin, Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil, while seven will be drawn from the smaller parties and groups.
In order to satisfy social distancing, the committee may sit in the Dáil chamber when the lower house is not in session, although this has not been finalised.
The agreement to set up the committee came at a meeting of the Dáil Business Committee today. It was also agreed to reinstate written parliamentary questions with limits on health questions.
