Newcastle takeover leaves Premier League 'risking becoming a patsy', warns Amnesty UK boss

Amnesty International has warned the Premier League it ‘risks becoming a patsy’ unless it scrutinises Saudi Arabia's human rights record.

Newcastle are on the verge of being sold to a Saudi-backed consortium, which involves Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for around £300m.

A non-refundable deposit of £17m has reportedly already been paid to current owner Mike Ashley as part of the deal. The Premier League must now decide if the cash-rich investors meet the criteria in its owners and directors test.
