The NHS is asking people with experiencing certain symptoms to "stay home, rest and have plenty of fluids", amid high levels of a nasty bug across England.
Despite the common association of norovirus with the colder months, the infection continues to be prevalent. An update shared by NHS England on X, on Saturday, highlighted that there have been over a million visits to the NHS's online norovirus advice in the past 16 weeks, marking it as "the most visited condition on the NHS website this winter".The main symptoms to watch out for are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and you may also experience fever, headaches, stomach cramps, or muscle pain across the body.
Although these symptoms can be quite distressing, they usually resolve on their own after a few days with self-care at home. The NHS advises maintaining hydration, resting, and eating when possible during recovery.
For those in discomfort, paracetamol is recommended, and the guidance for parents includes continuing breastfeeding or formula as usual, while offering small amounts of water to babies on formula or solids between feeds.
