Ayrshire has lost one if its most dedicated and eminent churchmen.Rev Bill Hannah, former Moderator of the Church of Scotland’s Ayr Presbytery, passed away peacefully at Erskine Hospital last week after a brave battle with dementia.

He was 85.A Freeman of Ayr, Bill was minister at Muirkirk Parish Church from 1987 until he retired in 2001.He is survived by wife of 62 years Morag, children John, Billy, Ruth and Jamie, 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.The popular clergyman was called to the ministry later in life, following successful careers in journalism and public relations.Raised in a flat on Ayr’s High Street and educated at the town’s Grammar School, his first job was cub reporter at the Ayr Advertiser.
