A 90-year-old man with dementia received a cruel note from someone lashing out at him for not clapping for carers on the frontline of the coronavirus fight.
The anonymous handwritten letter even criticised Gerald Rex's late wife’s religion. Due to his condition, Mr Rex, from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, does not know about the weekly Clap for Carers event or how Britons are paying tribute to health and care staff, and therefore doesn't take part, his son says.
Mr Rex was "devastated" to find the note in his letterbox calling him a “hypocrite” for not clapping given that his wife, Barbara, was cared for by the NHS in her final days.
