Police: Man, 2 girls injured in West Philadelphia hit-and-run

OVERBROOK - A 30-year-old man is in critical condition after he was stabbed in the chest in Philadelphia's Overbrook neighborhood.Late Friday night, just after 11:30, police were called to the 1500 block of North 52nd Street on the report of a person stabbed, according to authorities.When police arrived, they found a 30-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest.Medics rushed the man to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.Police say an investigation is active with Southwest Detectives.

KENSINGTON - Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting that injured two men, one of them critically, in Kensington.24th District officers were investigating a crime scene on the 100 block of Clearfield, Friday night, about 10 p.m., when they heard gunshots nearby. Additionally, numerous 911 calls came in about the same time for reported gunshots.Officers found two men injured when they got to the intersection of Bellmore Street and Frankford Avenue.A 21-year-old man and a 31-year-old man were both taken to Temple University Hospital, where the 21-year-old is listed as stable and the 31-year-old man is extremely critical condition.

WEST PHILADELPHIA - A 34-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot in the head inside of a vehicle in West Philadelphia.Officials say the shooting happened on Lansdowne Avenue and North 75th Street early Saturday morning, around 1 a.m.Responding officers found the man inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head.He was taken to Lankenau Medical Center and listed in critical condition.Police are investigating the shooting, but no arrests have been made.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say a man is dead after he arrived at a Philadelphia hospital suffering from a lethal gunshot wound on Friday night. Investigators say the deadly shooting happened on the 3100 block of Front Street around 9:30 p.m. Inspector D.F.

Police say an arrest has been made.

A motorcycle driver is dead and a female in a minivan lost an arm in an accident on Bridge and Tacony Streets in Bridesburg. BRIDESBURG - A 59-year-old man is dead after he was involved in an accident while traveling on a motorcycle in Philadelphia's Bridesburg neighborhood.Crews were called to Bridge and Tacony Streets Friday night, about 6:30, on the report of an accident.According to officials, the 59-year-old victim was riding a motorcycle north on Tacony Street.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department graduated 32 new 911 dispatchers Friday, easing its shortage in the vital position, but the department needs still more workers.On a wall in the dispatch room, the number of calls waiting are tallied and the waiting time is counted. Police leaders say their goal is to pick up a 9-1-1 call within 10 seconds and do that 90 percent of the time.But, shortages in the dispatch room have resulted in some police delays.MORE HEADLINES:According to numbers obtained by FOX 29, last year, of the more than 2.4 million calls, more than 7,000 callers waited at least a minute-and-a-half for someone to pick-up, likely slowing police response.The police department is budgeted for 352 dispatchers.

MAGNOLIA, Del. - A 27-year-old Kent County, Delaware man is in custody and charged with murder in the death of a 3-month-old baby.Delaware State Police officials said Magnolia resident, Keith Rawding, was arrested Thursday.Troopers were called to a home in Meadowbrook Acres Sunday morning, about 8 a.m., on the report of a death of an infant.MORE HEADLINES:The baby was found dead in his crib earlier Sunday morning.According to authorities, troopers determined the baby’s death was a homicide and the father, identified as Rawding, had caused the baby’s death on September 3rd.Rawding was arrested and charged with Murder by Abuse, or Neglect in the First Degree.

ELK MILLS, Md. - Two adults and three children were found shot to death Friday at a Maryland house after a man called 911 from the home to report a shooting, authorities said.Cecil County Sheriff Scott Adams said a man, a woman and three children — in the 5th, 7th and 8th grade — were found Friday morning in a large two-story home in Elk Mills. PHILADELPHIA - Cherelle Parker has resigned from City Council and announced her intentions to run for Philadelphia's Mayor, making her the latest council member to throw her hat in the bid for the city's top leadership position. In her resignation letter to Council President Darrell L. OVERBROOK - Philadelphia police are investigating a fatal shooting of a man in Overbrook.Officials said the shooting happened Thursday night, just before 9 p.m., on the 6200 block of Lebanon Avenue in Philadelphia’s Overbrook neighborhood.19th District officers responded and found the man, believed to be in his 30s, in the street, with multiple gunshot wounds to his head.

PHILADELPHIA - Police are searching for two suspects accused of breaking into a West Philadelphia restaurant and stealing thousands of dollars worth of items. According to police, the burglary happened on July 29 at Booker's Restaurant and Bar on Baltimore Avenue. Authorities say surveillance video shows two men smashing the restaurant's front door before entering around 5:30 a.m. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice say the suspects went through the entire business and took cash, checks, alcohol and a safe, a total value of several thousand dollars. Anyone with information is urged to contact Philadelphia police or submit an anonymous tip.

GEORGETOWN, Del. - A man is in critical condition after he was attacked with a baseball bat at a Royal Farms in Georgetown, Delaware State Police say. Authorities say the incident occurred on Wednesday around 9:53 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - A group of local runners went out on an early morning run in honor of Eliza Fletcher, the woman who was kidnaped in Memphis while out on a morning jog and later found dead. RELATED: Eliza Fletcher abduction: Body found near area of crime scene investigationThe runners gathered at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a popular end location for runs and races, at 4:30 a.m., the same time Fletcher went out for her run one week ago. Authorities say the 34-year-old school teacher was jogging when a man approached her and forced her into an SUV. Her body was found and identified days later and Cleotha Abston, 38, was arrested. According to officials, he was released from prison in 2020 after serving 20 years for a previous kidnapping. The local runners hosted the run in an effort to support Fletcher and the run organizer Bennet Brookstein, who was attacked while out on a jog in Philadelphia on Christmas Day in 2021. FOX 29's Eddie Kadhim has the latest details on the assault of a runner on MLK Drive."It just hit me hard.

PHILADELPHIA - A woman is in extremely critical condition after she was shot in the head in broad daylight in West Philadelphia, police say. Authorities say the shooting occurred on the 5900 block of Irving Street at 10:36 a.m. According to police, a 33-year-old woman was shot once in the head. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice transported the woman to Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was placed in extremely critical condition, authorities say.  Officials say no arrest has been made and the weapon was not recovered at this time. 

PHILADELPHIA - One man is dead and a teenager was injured after a double shooting in Kensington on Thursday night. According to police, the shooting occurred on the 3100 block of Potter Street around 10:46 p.m.Authorities say an unidentified man was shot once in the head and transported to Temple Hospital, where he was initially put in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at 12:06 a.m., according to officials. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESA 17-year-old was also injured in the shooting and sustained a gunshot wound to his right ear, police say. Authorities say he was transported to Frankford-Torresdale Hospital, where he was placed in stable condition.

PHILADELPHIA - A Pennsylvania man drown at a New Jersey beach when police say he was swept out to sea by strong currents Thursday afternoon. Shawn Reilly, 56, was swimming at an Ocean City beach with his 21-year-old son when police say rough surf caused him to struggle in the water. According to investigators, Reilly's son tried to help his father and was also taken by the strong currents.Three lifeguards entered the water and brought both men to shore where they immediately started CPR on Reilly. First responders from the Ocean City Fire Department/EMS took over CPR and rushed Reilly to Shore Medical Center where he died.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are investigating after motorists reported being pelted with rocks and other debris while driving down a Philadelphia highway on Tuesday night. A driver who asked to remain anonymous told FOX 29 that he was driving on I-76 eastbound near the Passyunk and Oregon Avenue exit around 7 p.m. when his car was struck by a large rock. He described the sound of the rock shattering his windshield as an "explosion" that sent glass fragments scattered across the inside of his brand-new car. "When the car got his I thought I got shot, the car got shot, that's how much of an explosion it was," he said. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe unnamed driver pulled his vehicle to the side of the road where several other cars had stopped after also being struck by thrown debris."There was a guy about 5-10 cars up from me that said a rock had gone through the windshield and struck a woman in the face that she needed emergency services," he said. Another driver who was in the shoulder of the highway claimed that her car was struck by a fire extinguisher, according to the anonymous driver. Officers from the Delaware River Port Authority said one person was throwing debris from the CSX Railroad overpass, but they ran away before police arrived. Dozens of cars were damaged when police say someone hurled rocks and other debris onto a busy Philadelphia highway.

PHILADELPHIA - Law enforcement sources tell FOX 29's Steeve Keeley that Deputy Commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department Christine Coulter has resigned.Coulter, according to the department's website, had more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, having served in patrol, narcotics, intelligence, investigations and other special units.Sources say Commissioner Danielle Outlaw gave Coulter the option to be demoted after a disagreement about the handling of a recent shooting incident.She served as the Acting Police Commissioner after the sudden resignation of Richard Ross in 2019, before later being replaced by Commissioner Danielle Outlaw. Coulter brief appointment was historic at the time as she became the first woman to lead Philadelphia's police force. "No matter the law enforcement assignment, Deputy Commissioner Coulter’s compassion for people and commitment to fairness and public safety shape her leadership style and fuel her law enforcement decisions," Coulter's biography on the department's website reads. The Philadelphia Police Department has not released a statement about Coulter's reported resignation.

VINELAND, N.J. - A Cumberland County man was charged after authorities say he stabbed another man during a fight at a bus stop Wednesday afternoon. Officers from the Vineland Police Department were called to Soprano's Pizza around 3 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Social media influencer Cass and the City is known for her videos showcasing the best places to visit in Philadelphia and throughout the Delaware Valley, but now, she and her husband are highlighting a different cause. Cass and her husband Kellen joined Good Day Philadelphia to get candid about the importance of addiction awareness. The road to success for the popular couple was not always an easy one. They recently opened up about Kellen's former battles with addiction. On social media, he revealed that he was given painkillers by a friend's mom to sell for money when he was just 14 years old, eventually leading him down a path of addiction from painkillers to heroin. During some of the worst times of his struggle, he says he was facing eviction and having thoughts of suicide. The couple decided to speak out because addiction is more common than most people think. Cass and Kellen met at a music festival in Maryland in 2014.

BENSALEM, Pa. - Authorities say a motorcycle driver was killed Wednesday night in Bucks County when he lost control of his bike and slammed into a concrete barrier. Pennsylvania State Police reported Anthony Dworinitski, 35, died when he crashed his Suzuki motorcycle on the I-95 southbound exit ramp near Cornwells Hights Park and Ride just before 9 p.m. An investigation concluded that Dworinitski lost control of his motorcycle and struck a concrete barrier on the shoulder of the exit ramp, resulting in fatal injuries. Emergency medical responders from Bensalem pronounced Dworinitski, a Bristol resident, dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the deadly motorcycle crash. 

CHELTENHAM, Pa. - On the same day Pennsylvania leaders met to raise concerns about rising crime against the postal service, authorities in one county warned residents to avoid a mailbox that's been struck by thefts dozens of times.The Cheltenham Township Police Department advised residents not to put mail with cash or checks inside the blue dropbox outside the Elkins Park Post office on Ashbourne Road. The box, according to police, has been a favorite target for money-hungry thieves.Authorities say checks taken from the mailbox have been stolen, washed, and fraudulently deposited into another account of an unintended recipient.

PHILADELPHIA - A man is in custody after he shot his girlfriend before barricading himself in a home, police say. According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident happened just after 3 a.m. on Thursday. Authorities say 35th District officers on patrol heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of Ogontz and W Nedro Avenues. Police checked the area and received a 911 call for a report of a woman shot on the 5800 block of Ogontz Avenue, Small says. After receiving reports of the shooting, investigators learned a woman, 29, drove herself about one mile to Einstein Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head, according to police. Authorities say the woman suffered from a graze wound and is in stable condition. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESSmall says the woman told police that she was standing outside of a garage and tire shop on the 5900 block of Ogontz Avenue when she was shot by her "on-again, off-again" boyfriend. According to authorities, the woman said the boyfriend had an apartment inside of the garage. Police saw the man inside the property, but he refused to come out, officials say. The situation was upgraded to a barricade after multiple attempts to get him out of the building failed and the SWAT unit were called in, Small says. Authorities say as the police presence increased, the man exited the building and was taken into custody. A second man was also inside the tire shop and he is being held and questioned as a witness, according to police. Detectives from the Philadelphia Police Department's non-fatal shooting unit are continuing to investigate. This is a developing story.

WASHINGTON - Authorities say a man is in custody after firing shots, exposing himself and climbing wires and rooftops in a northwest D.C. neighborhood Wednesday in a standoff that lasted into the early morning hours.Police say the man was experiencing a mental health crisis when he climbed across power lines from one side of the street to the other. He sat along tree branches and when police weren't able to get him down, they inflated what appeared to be a giant moon bounce.
