Prisoners in Argentina have reportedly opened fire and set the jail ablaze as they riot over the ongoing coronavirus restrictions.

Dozens of inmates broke out of their cells and brutally took control of a wing of the Carcel Devoto prison in Buenos Aires as the coronavirus sweeps across South America.

The riot started at about 9.20am local time amid reports that a prison service agent had tested positive for Covid-19, according to Argentine media.

Local media reported that about 40 inmates from unit 1 took control of the wind and started to climb up onto the roof where they threw stones onto the street.
