Rochdale MP Tony Lloyd has been released from intensive care after being treated for Covid-19. Mr Lloyd, who was appointed as the Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary in March, was admitted to Manchester Royal Infirmary.

He has been receiving treatment since April 6, the day after Boris Johnson. Councillor Faisal Rana tweeted a message from Mr Lloyd thanking people for their support.

The message said: "I have now been moved out of ICU. "It certainly is a tough condition and it has no doubt left me literally gasping for air. "But I am happy to say that I am, and continue to be, on the mend." Several Labour politicians have responded to pass on further messages of support to the 70-year-old MP.
