Silent Witness and New Tricks creator Nigel McCrery has passed away at the age of 71 following a short battle with a terminal illness.
His agent confirmed the news, saying: “With a heavy heart, we share the passing of screenwriter, author, and producer Nigel McCrery.
As the creative force behind beloved series like Silent Witness and New Tricks, Nigel captivated and inspired audiences for decades.” The statement continued: “His numerous contributions to the arts will always be remembered.
Nigel had an incredible career and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.” Before his prolific television career, McCrery served as a police officer with the murder squad in Nottingham.
