Edgbaston Cricket Club ground is to be used as a giant coronavirus drive-through testing site for NHS staff. Workers began erecting tents, marquees and portacabins at the Birmingham, venue today.
NHS England told the Mirror it hopes the drive-through site will be open and testing NHS staff by early next week. Smaller sites in Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton opened last week but closed after a few days following government advice.
The first drive-through test centre for NHS staff opened at Chessington World of Adventures last week. But today, it was reported just 75 people were tested at the south west London site, with images showing empty testing bays and lanes in the car park of the adventure park.
