Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is swapping the roles assigned to two members of his cabinet. During a ceremony at Rideau Hall on Wednesday, Trudeau announced Filomena Tassi is moving from the role of procurement minister to a new role as minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). “These changes follow Minister Filomena Tassi’s request to spend more time in Southern Ontario due to family reasons,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

Taking on Tassi’s duties will be Helena Jaczek, who has led the FedDev Ontario portfolio since last fall and previously served as Ontario’s minister of health in 2018 under the former Kathleen Wynne government.

Tassi’s office issued a statement following the shuffle, saying the shift to the FedDev Ontario portfolio will allow her to continue to serve Canadians while being able to remain closer to her home riding. “Early last year, my husband suffered two strokes.

As anyone whose family has had a similar experience will know, post-stroke care can be complex and filled with uncertainty,” she said in the statement. “Because of this, I met with the Prime Minister last month to discuss balancing the needs of my family with the travel demands on me as Minister of Public Services and Procurement; a department with operations in every corner of this country.” She added: “I want to thank the Prime Minister for approaching my situation as a challenge to be addressed and solved, rather than as a choice to be made between family or public service.” Read more: Trudeau set to shuffle cabinet Wednesday as House of Commons return nears: sources The shuffle comes one week before a cabinet retreat in Vancouver and one month before the

1 in 3 Canadians believe Trudeau should stay in power as Tories edge ahead: poll
Justin Trudeau deserves to remain in power appears to be slightly lower than it was one year ago amid the federal election, a new poll suggests.Polling done by Ipsos exclusively for Global News indicates 33 per cent of Canadians say Trudeau deserves to be re-elected, which is a drop of four per cent compared to polling done last fall.Sixty-seven per cent say it is time for another party to take over.“What we’re seeing in the numbers right now is not so much that there’s been a ‘new leader bump’ for the Conservatives, though they’re up just a little bit but within the margin of error,” said Darrell Bricker, CEO of Ipsos Public Affairs. “It’s really more that the Liberals have been losing.”He said the data suggests people who have previously voted Liberal are bleeding out to not only the Conservatives, which are also seeing a consolidation of some voters from the People’s Party of Canada, but also to the NDP and the Bloc Quebecois.“It’s not so much about the surge of the Conservative Party as it is about the slipping of the Liberals.” Trudeau criticizes ‘buzzwords, dogwhistles’ as Poilievre crowned Tory leader That Ipsos polling suggests it is the federal Conservatives that now hold a five-point lead on the Liberals among decided voters, with 35 per cent of those surveyed saying they prefer that party compared to 30 per cent for the Liberals, 20 per cent for the NDP, and seven per cent nationally for the Bloc Quebecois. Those numbers represent a one-point increase since the election for Conservatives, and a three-point decrease for the Liberals.
