The number of daily coronavirus cases in the UK has skyrocketed to 3,497 in the last 24 hours, in levels not seen since early May.
It marks the highest Saturday rise since the earlier months of lockdown. The soaring infection numbers come just days before England's restrictions are set to tighten again.
The 'rule of six' comes into law from Monday, and will limit gatherings indoors and outdoors to smaller numbers. Cases numbers are surging despite a testing fiasco, with many Brits complaining of being unable to get access to tests.
Nine people died with coronavirus in the UK the last 24 hours. There were no new deaths in Scotland or Wales on Saturday. Northern Ireland has yet to release its figures.
