A further 1,449 coronavirus deaths have been recorded in the UK and 16,840 more infections with numbers down on last week. It is the lowest Tuesday daily death rise since January 12.

It's a drop on last Tuesday when 1,631 fatalities and 20,089 new cases were announced. A total 16,840 Covid-19 new cases were recorded today - down by 3,249 on last Tuesday and the lowest daily case count since December 9.

Daily death tolls have tended to be higher on Tuesdays due to a build up following weekends which aren't processed in time for Mondays.

Yesterday  coronavirus  claimed the lives of 406 more patients in the UK, with 587 dying the day before that. The record daily increase for UK deaths, meanwhile, is 1,820, which was set on January 20.
