UK coronavirus death toll rises by 649 to more than 30,000

A total of 30,076 people have now died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus, the Department of Health has said. The death toll is up by 649 from 29,427 at the same point yesterday.

The total number of confirmed cases is now up to 201,101 - a rise of  6,111 from 194,990 at the same point yesterday. More than one million people have now been tested for the virus in the UK and a total of 69, 463 tests were carried out yesterday, the latest figures reveal.

There are currently 13,615 people in UK hospital with coronavirs - down from 13,922. NHS England announced 331 new deaths of people who tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 22,049.
