The UK's official coronavirus death toll has increased by 613 with a further 53,285 new cases - a 63% increase on the number of infections a week ago.
There have now been 74,125 fatalities within 28 days of a positive test, although the true toll is believed to be higher than 90,000 when death certificates mentioning Covid-19 are included.
The latest victims include an eight-year-old child in England. It is the fourth straight day with more than 50,000 lab-confirmed cases.
The number of confirmed infections is now 2,542,065. This has been one of Britain's worst weeks of the pandemic, with the country setting a second wave record for daily deaths, with 981 on Wednesday, and a new all-time high for confirmed cases in a single 24-hour period
