UK coronavirus hospital deaths up by three as England records daily low of 1

The UK's coronavirus death toll in hospitals has risen by three - with NHS England confirming its lowest daily rise since the start of lockdown.

These included one death in England, two in Wales and none in Scotland. Northern Ireland has not released its daily figure. Health authorities confirmed the tragic figure this afternoon as ministers wrestle with ways to stop a rise in cases across the UK.

Government scientists have warned the R rate could have risen above 1 in the UK, while England's chief medical officer Chris Whitty said there is little chance of a vaccine breakthrough before Christmas.
