The Greater Manchester organisations recognised with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service this year have been announced. 230 charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups from across the UK have been recognised with the highest award given to organisations delivering exceptional service within their communities.
31 of the organisations to receive the award are based in and around Greater Manchester. One of the groups recognised is The Bread and Butter Thing (TBBT), who have been a lifeline for many vulnerable families across Greater Manchester and Darlington.
The service, which has over 8000 members, redistributes surplus food from supermarkets and manufacturers to people on low incomes.
