PHILADELPHIA - Cooler temperatures will follow in the wake of a powerful storm system that plowed across the Delaware Valley Thursday night, bringing severe weather advisories and a brief isolated tornado warning.

Thursday night was a preview of what normally happens during the warm summer months. Daytime highs reached into the 70s that helped make the conditions right for an incoming cold front that pushed a line of storms across the area.

The National Weather Service first issued a region wide Severe Thunderstorm Watch which was later upgraded to a warning in parts of the region.

Winds that gusted up to 60 MPH helped spin up a brief Tornado Warning in central Bucks County. Forecasters said the storm system weakened as it moved across New Jersey towards the shore to help end the severe weather threat.

PHILADELPHIA - Delaware State Police is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that sent four to the hospital and killed a teenager in Lewes, Delaware. According to police, the crash happened on Friday at 2:10 p.m. Investigators say a Honda CR-V traveling eastbound on Lewes-Georgetown Highway (Route 9) was approaching the intersection at Ebb Tide Drive when a 2009 Ram 1500 traveling westbound on the highway.The Honda failed to observe the stopped traffic and swerved into the westbound lane where the Ram swerved towards the shoulder, state police say. Police say the vehicles crashed "in a near head-on collision" and the Honda overturned and struck a utility pole before coming to a stop. According to investigators, five people were in the Honda, including an 18-year-old male and 17-year-old female from Bear, an 18-year-old female from Wilmington, and a 16-year-old female and 17-year-old male from Middletown. All of the passengers were transported to local hospitals with two having non-life-threatening injuries, two in critical condition and one who died from injuries at the hospital. HARRISBURG, Pa. - A Pennsylvania couple has been charged with the theft and burglary of more than 250 vehicles, according to Attorney General Josh Shapiro. On Tuesday, authorities identified the couple as Keith Johnson and Jessica Fletcher of Yardley. Police say an investigation began after a series of unsolved car break-ins occurred in Bucks County over several months. The couple's crime spree spread across many counties in southeastern Pennsylvania, including Montgomery County and Philadelphia. Investigators say they also discovered that Johnson and Fletcher stole $150,000 in cash from a Philadelphia home on Christmas night in 2019.

GEORGETOWN, Del. - Delaware State Police arrested a man and charged him with his eighth DUI offense after a crash on Monday. On April 11, just before 3:00 p.m., state troopers responded to an accident in Georgetown, Del. Police say when they arrived to the scene, they found a black Nissan Quest, which had overturned onto its side in a wooded area near Dupont Boulevard. Police say Richard Cook, 50, was behind the wheel and two passengers, a 49-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, both sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Bayhealth Sussex Hospital. Police conducted a DUI investigation and took Cook in to custody at the scene. After searching Cook's vehicle, police say they found 2.04 grams of marijuana, suspected liquid heroin, drug paraphernalia, 2 fixed-knife blades, and a firearm. Authorities learned that Cook's driver's license was suspended, and he had been convicted for seven prior DUI offenses. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, and other related offenses. Cook was committed on a $39,501 cash bond.

Police searching for suspect accused of stabbing, killing man outside New Castle motel

Frank Deshields, 52, of New Castle is being sought in connection to the fatal stabbing of a man outside of a New Castle motel. NEW CASTLE, Del. - Police in Delaware are searching for a suspect accused of fatally stabbing a man outside of a motel in New Castle on Sunday. According to Delaware State Police, 52-year-old Frank Deshields is being sought by authorities. Police say troopers responded to The Super Lodge on West Avenue for a reported stabbing. According to authorities, troopers found a 45-year-old New Castle man outside of the motel with a stab wound to his upper torso. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities say. Investigators say Deshields is a suspect in the case and an arrest warrant was obtained for first-degree murder and weapon charges. The investigation is active and ongoing, according to authorities.

Man accused of impregnating 14-year-old family member caught in Fulton County hotel

Roque Garvia-Ortiz (Fulton County Sheriff's Office) FULTON COUNTY, Ga. - Fulton County deputies have arrested a man accused of raping and impregnating a family member after a manhunt over the weekend.The Fulton County Sheriffs' Office says their investigation began on the weekend when the Falls River Police Department reached out in their search for Roque Garcia-Ortiz.According to officials, Garcia-Ortiz raped a 14-year-old family member and impregnated her.Officials were afraid that the suspect was trying to fly to Puerto Rico, where he has family ties, so the department's Scorpion Unit got on the move.After a search Garcia-Ortiz was found at a hotel in East Point and brought into custody without incident.Garcia-Ortiz is charged with three counts of rape, three counts of aggravated rape of a child, and one count of rape of a child with force.He remains in custody at the Fulton County Jail while he awaits extradition back to Massachusetts.Advertisement
