The number of coronavirus deaths in Greater Manchester peaked in mid April - a full eight days after the rest of England, new figures have revealed.

A total of 65 people died in hospitals across the region on Thursday April 16 - which appears to be the peak. Since then the number of deaths have been falling at hospital trusts across the city region.

A total of 1,191 people have died of coronavirus in the region's hospitals so far according to figures from NHS England. However there could be a new peak at any time.

The peak across England was on April 8 when 857 people died in the country’s hospitals, according to NHS England. The NHS figures only take into account Covid-19 deaths that have taken place in hospitals.
