Nearly 500 care home residents have now died after suffering from Covid in Greater Manchester, according to new figures released this morning.
However, the numbers - from the care system regulator - show the rise in deaths has been gradually slowing since late April.
Up to last Friday there had been 492 coronavirus-related deaths reported to the Care Quality Commission by the conurbation’s care homes, meaning the virus had been a factor in just over half of all deaths in residential homes since April 10, which total 959.
Salford still has the largest proportion of care home deaths involving the virus, at nearly two thirds. Wigan has the lowest, at 41pc.
