The City of Guelph says it is placing 127 full-time employees on emergency leave in response to the closures and changes to the province’s list of essential services amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Guelph Public Library has also announced 120 of its staff have been placed on leave as well, effective April 25. In a statement released on Friday, the city said its moves affect both union and non-union employees.
It’s expected the move by the city will save $745,000 in compensation per month while employees are on leave.
