Alarming coronavirus data shows surging cases in dozens of towns and regions as Boris Johnson prepares to toughen up local lockdowns.
Figures showing the number of cases per 100,000 people for every part of England provide an indication of where may be hit with the strictest measures.
It is still not known where will get the harshest rules - with pubs, gyms and betting shops being forced to shut. Other factors will be used to consider the lockdown tiers for each place, such as hospital admissions, the rate of growth and whether cases are linked to specific outbreaks such as at a factory or university.
But many parts of the Midlands and North seem likely to be placed in the most serious Tier 3 based on latest infection rates.
