Children are being banned from singing Happy Birthday in schools over fears it will spread coronavirus. Pupils are being told they must not sing Happy Birthday to their classmates but simply say the words to avoid spreading the virus.

The bizarre new approach comes just months after Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the UK to sing Happy Birthday twice during hand washing.

Some teachers are letting students hum or clap along to the celebratory tune so their mouths stay closed, The Sun reports. While others have taken a more drastic approach and resorted to playing YouTube videos of the Happy Birthday song to a class full of silent pupils.
