Empire State Of Mind might be one of Alicia Keys’ most iconic tracks, but the singer has revealed that there was one major issue with it which meant she had to re-record the track.
Alicia recorded Empire State Of Mind with Jay-Z, but the rapper and producer asked her to cut the track again when he heard it.
Why? Because she had recorded the ode to the East Coast in a West Coast recording studio. She told Ebro Darden on Apple Music: ‘I actually cut it in LA, and I think that was the problem.
You’re not supposed to cut a song about New York in LA, it just was wrong.’ As well as cutting it on the wrong coast, Alicia admitted she was a bit ill when she recorded the original version, which she thinks may have played a part, too.
