Swansea City were on the verge of signing Alphonso Davies for just £3m from Vancouver Whitecaps three years ago. But the lack of a work permit denied the Welsh club the chance to land one of European football’s current hottest prospects.
The 19-year-old eventually joined Bayern Munich in 2019 and has quickly burst onto the scene, showing electric pace and top ability.
Davies is tipped to become the first £100m left-back in world football with the teenager already a regular figure in Bayern’s starting XI.
However, his career could have been panning out very differently had his switch to England been approved in 2017. Canadian speed merchant Davies was offered around by top agent Dave Baldwin during his time in Vancouver.
