Boris Johnson has said the UK is seeing "apparent success" in the fight against coronavirus, despite it being linked to well over 20,000 deaths.
The Prime Minister said while the virus is the biggest challenge since the Second World War, Britain had so far managed not to see the NHS overwhelmed.
Mr Johnson made the comment in an eight-minute address to the nation today for the first time since being taken to hospital.
As of 5pm on Saturday, 20,732 people have died in hospital after testing positive for Covid-19. However, the true figure is higher as this does not include thousands of deaths in care homes and the wider community.
