Boris Johnson stands by Dominic Cummings after claims he broke lockdown rules

Boris Johnson says he is standing by Dominic Cummings despite his chief advisor appearing to break lockdown rules. Mr Cummings went on a 520 mile round trip to his parents home in Durham at the height of lockdown at the end of March.

The Government's advice was for all the population to "stay at home" and self-isolate for 14 days if you or a person in your household displayed coronavirus symptoms.

But despite making the trip from his London home with his son and wife, who had become ill with coronavirus symptoms, Mr Cummings said he had travelled to be close to family to seek help caring for his four-year-old child in a statement previously issued through Number 10.
