Grim CCTV shows how a prisoner allegedly hitting a guard in the face with soap before overpowering him and grabbing his keys – which he appears to then pass to another convict.
The lag allegedly used a soap bar in a sock as an improvised weapon and injured three guards, one seriously, at Cook County Jail, Illinois, US, on Tuesday.
In the clip, which is cut because the full CCTV is too graphic, the con walks up the hallway stairs while the guard is busy checking cell doors.
He then sneaks up behind the prison officer and can be seen grabbing him. The struggle results in the lag overpowering him and shoving him into a cell as a second inmate looks on.
