Britain will have to live with some form of social distancing for over a year to keep the coronavirus transmission rate down, according to the Government’s chief medical officer.

In a frank assessment of the current lockdown measures Professor Chris Whitty chief medical officer for England, said the chances of a vaccine being developed in the next year was “incredibly small” meaning restrictions would have to remain in some shape.Speaking at the Downing Street press conference Whitty said: “I think we should be realistic about that, we’re going to have to rely on other social measures, which of course are very disruptive as everyone is finding at the moment.”He said: “That is what we will have to do, it is likely to be the best combination
