Coronavirus: Emmerdale and Corrie hit back at pub scenes criticism amid government ban

ITV issued a statement after Emmerdale and before Coronation Street this evening amid criticism of their pub scenes on the two soaps.

Despite the fact that the soaps are filmed around six weeks in advance, some viewers have lashed out at them for being "irresponsible" for showing scenes between characters conversing in pubs, cafes and other leisure outlets.

The comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson told all pubs, cafes, restaurants, bars, gyms and other leisure outlets to close this evening in a bid to combat the coronavirus outbreak.

This evening, the ITV soaps each issued a statement to say that pub, cafe and restaurant scenes would continue to air over the next few weeks.
