The UK's coronavirus death toll has surged to 465, with 41 dying in the last 24 hours. NHS England has just announced that 28 people have died in England since its last figure yesterday.
It comes after Scotland recorded another six deaths, while five more people died in Wales and two more in Northern Ireland. There are now 414 deaths in England, 22 in Scotland, 22 in Wales and seven in Northern Ireland.
Just yesterday, 87 more deaths had been recorded in just 24 hours in the biggest leap yet. The sobering figures come after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced more than 400,000 Brits have signed up as volunteers for the NHS to help in the fight against Covid-19.
