Millions of primary school pupils in England will start going back from June 1 under government plans to ease the lockdown. Years R, 1 and 6, along with nurseries and childminders, are expected to resume lessons followed by Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 later in June.
But primary schools will look radically different to how they did before, new guidance confirms. The virus will be managed by having half-sized classes, one-way corridors and staggered break and drop-off times.
Soft furnishings will be removed and whole classes will have to go home for two weeks if one child gets sick with Covid-19. But teaching unions have warned that the plan is "reckless" and the ambition for all year groups to return to primary schools by summer is not "feasible".
