NEW DELHI: The ministry of power Monday clarified that distributors will still have to pay their bills to the generators within 45 days of them becoming due.
The ministry had on 28 March urged the sector regulator to reduce the late payment surcharge to 1% from 1.5% to give relief to distributors in wake of the national lockdown, arising out of the covid-19 pandemic.
Many distributors had misinterpreted the ministry's request to the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission and invoked covid-19 as a force majeure event to inform generators that they wouldn’t be paying their bills for some time to come.
