Dumfries and Galloway has been invaded by hordes of rats.Numbers have “doubled” since lockdown as the rodents become bolder in their hunt for food.And the mild winter has also been blamed for an explosion in the rat population.The problem has spread throughout the region with trouble spots such as Dumfries, Castle Douglas, Beeswing and other areas stretching to Stranraer being identified by experts as causing concern.Jim Carter, a senior partner with a pest control firm, said: “Since lockdown the problem with rats has doubled.“We have been inundated with call outs and have been catching and killing hundreds of rats and also mice.“We have been going to houses which are infested with both and it is due to lockdown, absolutely 100 per cent.”He
