Emergency crews rush to scene of van fire in Wythenshawe

A main road in Wythenshawe was shut this morning after a van burst into flames. Firefighters and police rushed to reports of the fire in Altrincham Road, Sharston, at about 10.30am today.

The road was partially closed between the Sharston Interchange and Freshpool Way while crews put out the blaze. It is not believed that anyone was injured in the incident.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Shortly after 10.25am this morning (Sunday, 24 March), one fire engine from Stockport fire station was called to attend a van fire on Altrincham Road, Manchester. “Our crew arrived quickly and used two hose reels and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. “Firefighters worked alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe before departing after approximately 35 minutes at the scene.”
