The end of mandatory self-isolating for 14 days after coming into contact with a positive Covid case is within sight. Boris Johnson has announced a major shake-up of testing protocols across England.

Contacts of those who test positive will be offered the opportunity to be tested every day for a week and they will not need to isolate unless they test positive.

Currently the NHS Test and Trace app alerts those in contact they have to isolate for 14 days after the initial contact. Downing Street said the pilot will begin in Liverpool on Monday.

If it is successful, a wider rollout is planned across the NHS and care homes in December before being introduced nationwide from January.
