Pharmacy technicians experiencing pandemic burnout, could lead to medication errors
LOS ANGELES - Like nearly every industry negatively impacted by the ongoing pandemic, pharmacies are no exception. According to a recent report from The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations (NASPA), pharmacists and pharmacy personnel say they are being stretched thin and it could impact your health. According to a 2022 National Pharmacy Workplace Survey published in December, many pharmacy technicians and personnel working in the industry shared concern over stress leading to "occupational burnout."75% of respondents answered negatively to questions regarding them receiving enough time and personnel to safely perform or meet duties.Because of the concern of burnout, both the APhA and the NASPA say they identified many factors that could lead to technicians making medication errors that could negatively impact consumers. These factors that could contribute to medication errors include: "Addressing pharmacy personnel harassment and bullying by patients/consumers is critical. Pharmacy personnel should not fear for their safety when providing patient care and serving their community’s health care needs," said Rebecca Snead, RPh, executive vice president and CEO of NASPA.

Local community battles opioid epidemic as CDC proposes controversial guideline changes
FALLS TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A Bucks County community in the throes of the opioid epidemic is questioning a new proposal from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that would loosen guidelines on prescribing powerful prescription drugs. "If the last 20 years tells us anything the medical community underestimated how addictive these drugs were going to be," Falls Township Police Department Chief Nelson Whitney said. The CDC's previous guidance, issued six years ago, helped slow the kind of prescribing that ignited the worst overdose epidemic in U.S. history.

Four Premier League players handed two game bans for breaking Covid quarantine rules
Premier League players have been banned by FIFA after breaking Covid regulations last year.Giovani Lo Celso, Christian Romero, Emiliano Martinez, and Emiliano Buendia have all been punished for their roles in Brazil and Argentina's World Cup qualification clash. The group had all dodged Brazil's Covid rules, which stated all arrivals must spend 14 days in quarantine after entering the country. However, the Premier League players all travelled from the hotel to the stadium with their national teammates. The resulting situation caused chaotic scenes when health officials stormed the pitch after six minutes to haul the players off for breaking the rules.FIFA released a statement: "After a thorough investigation of the various factual elements and in light of the applicable regulations."The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided that the match should be replayed on a date and at a location to be decided by FIFA."In addition, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has concluded that the abandonment of the match stemmed from several deficiencies of the parties involved towards their respective responsibilities and/or obligations in connection with the former."As such, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has also decided to suspend the Argentinian players Emiliano Buendía, Emiliano Martínez, Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero for two matches each for not complying with the FIFA Return to Football International Match Protocol." What do you think of the punishment? Let us know in the comments section Both countries FA's have also been fined due to their failure to maintain order and security.Argentina have been hit with a £160,000 fine, while Brazil were ordered to fork over £300,000.The two nations will also pay an additional £40,000 fine

Judge grants injunction against noise, idling, fireworks in Ottawa as protests continue
Justin Trudeau consulted premiers about using the Emergencies Act Monday, while an Ontario judge granted an injunction to enforce noise and idling bylaws related to the ongoing anti-vaccine mandate protests in Ottawa.City solicitor David White requested the injunction Friday, saying the protesters were flagrantly violating bylaws against relentless noise, idling of trucks, setting off fireworks, and open air fires. The injunction, which does not have an end date, was designed to give the police and bylaw officers an extra tool to enforce city bylaws, lawyers acting for the city of Ottawa said Monday. Trudeau expected to invoke Emergencies Act to aid convoy blockade response: sources The Attorney General’s office intervened in the court hearing to make it clear that the injunction would also apply to federal property in Canada’s capital city. The protest by antigovernment demonstrators blockading city streets around Parliament Hill is now in its third week and has spread to several Canada-U.S.

His remains were later discovered within the vast Carlton Reserve wilderness park in Sarasota County, Florida. The new documents revealed that Laundrie’s body was likely submerged in up to 3 feet of floodwater "for an extended period of time," which likely contributed to the lengthy search for him.The release comes weeks after the FBI released its final update on the Gabby Petito investigation, saying a review of the notebook found near Laundrie's remains showed he claimed responsibility for her death.

Suspect charged after Philadelphia SWAT officer shot in vest while serving warrant
PHILADELPHIA - Authorities in Philadelphia have identified and charged a suspect accused of shooting a SWAT officer who was serving a warrant late last week, striking him in his bulletproof vest. The incident occurred around 12:37 p.m. Friday, when members of the Philadelphia Police Department SWAT unit were serving a search warrant on the 100 block of West Lehigh Avenue. Authorities say the warrant was to search for Kristian Reyes, 35, who was wanted for parole violations. Members of the SWAT team had entered a three-story building on the block after announcing their presence, and approached the door to the third-floor apartment. Police say SWAT officers attempted to breach the door, firing three rounds from a breaching shotgun on the door lock and deadbolt, but were unsuccessful. As the officers prepared to ram the door, authorities say Reyes fired multiple gunshots through the wall, striking one of the officers once in the chest.

Trudeau expected to invoke Emergencies Act to aid convoy blockade response: sources
Justin Trudeau is expected to announce Monday he will invoke emergency powers to support provinces in ending the blockades and public disorder that have gripped Ottawa for 18 days, Global News has confirmed. One national security source and one source that participated in a Monday morning Liberal national caucus meeting said the government is poised to invoke the act and that senior officials are preparing for an imminent announcement.Multiple sources have also told Global News federal officials are weighing options for the military to help law enforcement with logistics. But there is no plan at this time, according to the sources, to have the military help police in dealing with civilians or deploying into the streets. What exactly are the powers coming into play? Let’s take a look.First, a quick history recap: the Emergencies Act is not the War Measures Act.The War Measures Act was the controversial piece of legislation that Trudeau’s father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, used back in 1970 during the October Crisis, which saw a series of terrorist attacks by a Quebec separatist group. The law allowed the federal government to suspend civil liberties, and it was in response to questions over how far Trudeau senior would go in suspending these liberties that he offered the infamous phrase: “Just watch me.”That law, however, was repealed and replaced in 1988.
