COLOMBO (News1st) – Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage today ordered the release of media spokesperson of the Samagi Trade Unions Collective Ananda Palitha and Chairman of the Electricity Consumers' Association Sanjeewa Dhammika, on two personal bails of Rs.

500,000 each.They were released pertaining to the case filed against two members of the Public Utilities Commission, Mohan Samaranayake and Udeni Wickramasinghe, under the charges of criminal coercion and intimidation in the elevator of the building where the commission is located.Colpetty Police has filed two separate cases against the suspects.

Sanjeewa Dhammika who is named as a third suspect in the case was identified by Mohan Samaranayake who is named a witness in the case during an identification parade that was held in the presence of Colombo Additional Magistrate Kingsley Hettiarachchi today.

Thereafter the magistrate ordered the police to conduct further investigations into the matter and to direct the investigation files to court on the 27th of April. .

COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya ordered the Colombo Chief Judicial Medical Officers, and the Government Analyst to preserve the bio-samples of the late Dinesh Schaffter, who died under mysterious circumstances.President's Counsel Anuja Premaratne appearing for the aggrieved party informed the court that the samples would be necessary if another post-mortem is to be carried out over the death of the Colombo-based businessman.Based on this submission, the Colombo Additional Magistrate ordered the Chief Judicial Medical Officer of the Colombo General Hospital, and the Director of the Colombo National Hospital to provide a comprehensive report to the court detailing all medical treatment provided to Dinesh Schaffter after he was admitted to the hospital on the 15th of December 2022.In addition, the Colombo Additional Magistrate ordered the Colombo Chief Judicial Medical Officer and the Officer in Charge of the Crimes Laboratory to provide all photographs and videos obtained before and after the postmortem examination, as well as those taken when performing the post-mortem.Dinesh Schaffter was found dead inside his car at the Borella Public Cemetery on the 15th of December 2022.The Criminal Investigations Department informed the court that in addition to Dinesh Schaffter's biosamples, other samples were found on the zip-ties used to his hands, the wire used to strangle him, and the bottle discovered inside his.

NEW YORK - The man alleged to have been behind the wheel of a U-Haul truck that struck multiple people on and off the street in Brooklyn has been charged.Police say Weng Sor, 62, a man with a significant violent criminal history in Nevada, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder.Police said at a press conference on Tuesday that after interviews with his family members and interrogation, they believe Sor was suffering from a mental health crisis. The NYPD announced Wednesday that Weng Sor, 62, a man with a history of mental illness and violent criminal incidents, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder after going on a rampage in a U-Haul truck in Brooklyn, striking pedestrians and killing one man.According to NYPD officials, Sor, who lives with his mother in Las Vegas, traveled to West Palm Beach in Florida on February 1 to rent a U-Haul truck. On February 5th, while traveling through South Carolina, en route to New York, he was stopped for reckless driving and marijuana possession by highway patrol. On February 6, Sor arrived at his ex-wife and son's residence, and a few days later on February 8, had an altercation with his son.
