Fresh plea to save free TV licences for over-75s as Britain battles coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic should trigger a U-turn on scrapping over-75s' free TV licences, Labour says tonight. Boris Johnson should take back control of funding the £157.50-a-year lifeline for millions of OAPs who face being stripped of the lifeline on August 1, Shadow Culture Secretary Tracy Brabin believes.

Curbs to restrict the benefit so only over-75s who receive Pension Credit are still eligible were due to be introduced on June 1, but were shelved for two months amid the Covid-19 crisis.
