Boris Johnson has been discharged after six days in hospital and will continue his recovery from coronavirus at Chequers. The Prime Minister was taken to St Thomas' Hospital in central London last Sunday with persistent Covid-19 symptoms.

On Monday the 55-year-old was taken into intensive care but after three nights was moved back to the general ward. He will now spend time recovering at the Prime Minister's grace and favour country manor in Buckinghamshire, 41 miles from Downing Street.

His pregnant fiancée Carrie Symonds - who sent him a love letter and baby scan of their unborn child - said parts of the last week had been "very dark indeed".
