Dominic Raab believes the return of Premier League football will help lift the spirits of the nation. But the First Secretary of State has warned that the government will only give the green light for it to resume when it is safe to do so.
All professional football in England has been indefinitely suspended since March due to the coronavirus outbreak, but the Premier League are working on plans for a June restart.
However, those plans appear to have hit a snag after it emerged that the bottom six clubs in the Premier League are against the idea of playing the rest of the campaign at neutral grounds and have called on relegation to be scrapped this season.
