A government Covid expert has issued an update as cases continue to climb in the UK. Hospital and intensive care unit (ICU) admissions have increased, according to the latest Covid surveillance report, but still remain low.
The Covid-19 hospital admission rate has risen to 3.00 per 100,000 population, an increase from 1.97 per 100,000 a fortnight ago.
Admission rates have increased in all age groups, except for those aged 15 to 24. The highest admission rate continues to be seen in the over 75s. Dr Mary Ramsay, head of immunisation at UK Health and Security Agency, advised that anyone with symptoms of respiratory infection should stay at home and away from others, especially those who are vulnerable.
She added: "Hospitalisations are also increasing; but still remain at very low levels. "ICU admissions have increased in this week's report, but remain extremely low.
