Government Covid expert issues coronavirus update as cases in the UK continue to rise

A government Covid expert has issued an update as cases continue to climb in the UK. Hospital and intensive care unit (ICU) admissions have increased, according to the latest Covid surveillance report, but still remain low.

The Covid-19 hospital admission rate has risen to 3.00 per 100,000 population, an increase from 1.97 per 100,000 a fortnight ago.

Admission rates have increased in all age groups, except for those aged 15 to 24. She added: "Hospitalisations are also increasing; but still remain at very low levels.  "ICU admissions have increased in this week's report, but remain extremely low.
