Greater Manchester is poised to get extra vaccinations, military support and a school mask-wearing rule to drive down Covid rates, it is understood, as numbers have begun doubling week-on-week in most areas and hospital admissions have started to rise.
However the move is likely to come with the same travel guidance currently in place for Bolton, which warns people to ‘minimise’ travel in and out of the area.
For several weeks officials had been becoming increasingly concerned that while Bolton had received a package of support thanks to its spike in case rates, nothing had come forward for neighbouring boroughs now seeing similar surges.
