You may be wondering: who is playing Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in the upcoming HBO series based on all 7 Harry Potter books.

Production on the series is expected to begin in summer 2025 with a premiere for season one in 2027. Now, there’s an update on the casting. Keep reading to find out more… According to Deadline, the casting call went out asking for children who would be between the ages of 9 and 11 by April 2025.

The casting notice noted that they were looking for “inclusive, diverse casting” and wanted “qualified performers, without regard to ethnicity, sex, disability, race, sexual orientation and gender identity.” Two videos were requested from those auditioning: one video of the young actors performing a short story or a poem, and another asking to describe themselves and “a family member, friend or pet that you are particularly close to.” Now, after thousands and thousands of videos were submitted, they’ve allegedly begun doing chemistry reads for the final three roles.

Casting announcements are expected to be made “relatively soon” and then more of the adult stars will be announced as well. It’s also expected that many of the other children in the cast – including roles like Draco Malfoy, Dean Thomas and Cho Chang – will be found via those thousands of audition tapes.
