Walker airlifted to hospital after reservoir fall

A walker was airlifted to hospital after falling at a reservoir in Rochdale. Mountain rescuers were called to Greenbooth near Norden after the walker injured themselves at 10.40am on Friday.

It came amid sub-zero temperatures and widespread ice and frost at the beauty spot. The walker was wrapped up against the cold before being flown to hospital by helicopter.

No details about the nature of the injury have been given. In a statement Rossendale Mountain Rescue Team said: "With the initial call having gone to Oldham Mountain Rescue Team we were assisted by a couple of their team members on scene.

The casualty was assessed, and the request made for assistance from the North West Air Ambulance Charity. "The casualty was then packaged into a vacuum mattress, and insulated from the cold before being transferred to the air ambulance for onwards a flight onto hospital." It was the third time RMRT have been called to Greenbooth this year.
