Hibs assistant manager Eddie May was rushed to hospital after being involved in a horror crash while driving on his way to training. The 57-year-old was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after the incident happened at around 7.15am on Wednesday.

The smash took place on the A68, near Pathhead in Midlothian - around five miles from Hibernian's training ground. The 29-year-old driver of the other vehicle - who was also taken to hospital following the smash - was arrested and charged with a road traffic offence.

The road was closed for several hours to allow police to carry out an investigation at the scene. It’s understood the family of the former Falkirk and Motherwell star, who also played for English outfit Brentford, were at his bedside yesterday as he underwent tests by medics.

Last night, Hibs chiefs confirmed Eddie was in a stable condition following the crash as they wished him a quick recovery. Since 2014, May - who is considered to be a favourite among Hibs fans - has been with the club in various coaching capacities.
