A facility for cancer patients on the grounds of University Hospital Galway is being handed over to the HSE, to provide extra bed capacity in the coming weeks.
Cancer Care West has made its Inis Aoibhinn lodge available to the hospital. The 33-bedroom property is usually used by people who have to travel to Galway for treatment.
Alternative accommodation will be provided for these patients at the Harbour Hotel in the city. The Chief Executive of Cancer Care West, Richard Flaherty, said that nursing care and other supports would be available at the hotel.
